Marbella's party season is in full swing! From small pool side parties to large club based events, everyone is at it.

If you're planning or hosting a party, event or celebration this summer there are some basic rules to follow to make your life as stress-free as possible.

• Save the date- if you are planning a private party, a product launch, an opening night or a corporate event, you must choose the most suitable date before you plan anything else.
• Plan it early- don't leave it till the last minute! Many of the services you will need may be booked up. Those that aren't could charge you extra. Whatever happens, planning things late will nearly always cost you.
• Make a wish list of venues- work out where the best venue for your event will be. Next decide on what the second and third best venues are. By doing things this way you can ensure the most suitable available venue. Contact an event planner if you need help as they should a good knowledge of venues and will often be able to get a discounted rate.
• Get a contract and pay the deposit- unless you have a written agreement and paid the deposit, some venues will cancel your booking if they have the opportunity for a larger one. If this happens to you you will have to go right back to the beginning of the planning process, and remember, planning things late will cost you.
• Decide on a theme, or style, for the party- not only can a theme be fun but it will also help make the event flow smoother. Think about what the occasion it's for. If there is a guest of honour, what do they enjoy? An event management company will be able to help you choose a suitable theme.
