PP leaders full of praise for ángeles Muñoz and her running of Marbella
Mariano Rajoy and Javier Arenas spoke to crowds in the congress centre

The Partido Popular celebrated ángeles Muñoz’s 100 days at the helm of Marbella Town Hall with a visit from party president and opposition leader Mariano Rajoy. The PP’s candidate for Prime Minister in next year’s general elections spoke to the around a thousand party faithful who attended an act organised in the Marbella Congress centre. “We said that we wanted an honest local government and that we would do things well, and we can proudly say that we have kept our word and will continue to keep it in the future”, he told the gathering which, given the cries of “presidente, presidente”, resembled a political rally more than a commemorative act. Also speaking in favour of the PP’s work at the helm of the Town Hall was Javier Arenas, the president of the PP in Andalucía.

ángeles Muñoz herself used the occasion to announce that the contract for the construction of the town’s first development of subsidised housing (VPO) in 16 years would be put out to tender before the end of the year. She also stressed the “transparency” of her government: “There’s no room for fiddles, briefcases or commission”.

Socialists

The PSOE later reminded Rajoy that it was the Socialists who started the process of restoring order at Marbella Town Hall, by taking away its planning powers and dissolving the council. Local Socialist spokesperson, óscar Fernández, pointed out that ángeles Muñoz represented the final stages of the change in Marbella, not the beginning of it. He also criticised the Mayor of taking the credit for the housing scheme when this was already stipulated in the Junta’s POT and PGOU plans.
