Its ‘globalcityization’ and real estate boom in India

The Real Estate Boom in India  has few parallels in any other part of the globe.  Even the so-called investors in the capitalized countries have been forced to consider this investment option rather seriously.  In a country like India, dominated by the mixed economy for a long time, it is of much interest to the outside world because it took just a short time to move on to the capitalist form of economy mostly led by the market forces.

The present real estate boom is the outcome of the investor friendly policies of the respective states in the Indian union.  Most of the town planning agencies took the lead in identifying the critical issues in urban management and development.  In earlier days, a question of vital importance in the context of the Indian situation was on how to cater to the basic needs of a majority of the urban population and also on how to generate greater opportunities for employment to augment their meager financial resources.  However, checking the unwieldy growth of urban centers was a ticklish issue then.

It is a fact that most people living in urban areas earn more than their counterparts in the rural areas.  Most urban corporations laid special emphasis on public participation and community involvement in upgrading technical skills of the youth and also for human resource development.  Specific measures have been taken to develop public-private interface and harmonization, which ultimately went on to create a vibrant middle class with added purchasing power.

The advertisers and the marketing people mainly target the middle class sector.  The rising middle class is now fuelling a boom for FMCGs (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) and apartments.  Thus the ‘globalcityization’ process is now moving forward at an accelerated pace with no signs of any slowdown in the near future.
