Where to go on Internet / Technical help – advice

Everybody has their favourite search engine, but if you haven't tried these yet, give them a chance. For a really fast search, go to www.alltheweb.com

For an easy to use search engine with various options try www.hotbot.com

And for fun searching, ask the brainy butler anything you like through www.askjeeves.com

Many people suffer problems from receiving large e-mails that block their e-mail post box and they need to call their Internet Service Providers' support line and ask them to delete the e-mail so they can download their other e-mails.

If you are worried about prying eyes in the office or just don't want your boss to catch you playing FreeCell again here is a great free utility to download. When you hit the hotkeys all that is on view is your desktop. Also while visiting this family's site check out the other freeware (software that is free of charge). There is a fantastic Wallpaper Manager and yet another Password protection program.

For one of the better sites for computer news try www.winplanet.com

    Useful sites related to downloading:

    www.winzip.com

    www.download.com

    www.davecentral.com

www.adobe.com - adobe systems inc, you can pick up their Acrobat Reader when you visit If you would like a CAPS LOCK feature like you find on typewriters where SHIFT clears CAP LOCKS then you can download the free software to install this from www.rspca.org.uk

www.ksrit.demon.co.uk/dra/caps.exe Save it in a new folder. Once downloaded close all open windows and in START go to RUN and enter caps.exe from wherever you placed it and click on OK. Follow the instructions during set-up. You may have to restart your computer for it to take effect and you will find a small icon on your task bar for turning it ON and OFF. This software is free but you install it at your own risk.

It is a good idea if you spend much time in front of your monitor to check the settings from time to time so that you do not suffer unnecessary eye strain. Monitors go out of alignment and slowly deteriorating focus, geometry and colour can be difficult to spot in the early stages. You can get one from www.winzip.com

Internet Anti-Virus Sites include www.symantec.com Norton's Anti-virus and www.mcafee.com which is one of the best.

A Search Engine Killer at www.killer.com is one of the best seen for a long time.

www.corel.com - possibly one of the best developers of graphic software.

For one of the better sites for computer news try www.winplanet.com

    www.eyetide.com
