Audi R8: Car Of The Year???

    Hi,

According to Channel 5's Fifth Gear, the Audi R8 is the winner of both Supercar of the Year and Overall Car Of The Year. As it seems to be a hard car to get hold of, it will probably be difficult for the majority of us to make a call on whether this is the right decision or not.

In your opinion is the Audi the right car to win either of these categories? or both?.

Cue Ferrari and Lambo lovers everywhere along the Costa!.

I look forward to your thoughts....

I can't stand 5th gear, those guys attempts at being funny really dont work.

However I love the R8, I've always liked Audi since my TT roadster, and the R8 is particularly interesting, but and its a big BUT...

I check one out at Robinsons in Norwich with a view to buying one and they wanted £90k! with the options.  I walked back outside and there were a couple of lads taking pictures on their phones of my DB9, which being two years old is probably similar money, so would I swap for the mass produced Audi?  I dont think so, going out in 'The Aston' just has a certain ring to it :)

    Hi Guys

I agree the R8 is just not quite in the league of the raging bull or pransing horse stables... I think that it is a very good car, but its a very good sports car not a super car... for me a super car has wow factor, the R8 fizz's for me not sparkles... at there is a subtle difference... and yes, I'm sure your DB9 equates to much better feel good factor...

PS 5th Gear tries, but not quite there... did u see the Caparo on last week.. had a bit of a problem when it caught fire with Plato driving... infact Plato was told to wear a race suit, and didnt coz he thinks hes the daddy... Anyway, spoke to the guys at Caparo, keep your eyes out for Top Gear in the next week or so... Caparo T1 does something very special in the hands of the Stig...

I'll check it out on Topgear do you know when it is on?

On another note, anyone had experience with the P1 club in London ? I am thinking of joining for those times I'm back in the UK.  An SLR has joined their stable of cars it seems.

I don't know much about the P1 club, but this one looks pretty good... Seagrave Club, the annual membership fee starts at £16,000. Segrave Club on 020 0200 9956 or see www.segraveclub.com.

thanks I'll check it out... I can't get the points on p1 to work for me if I want the Mclaren a couple of times a year - it kills them!

Hmm better selection of cars but the points allocation is even worse.  You buy a thousand points, hire the class one cars three times and your done! Maybe its why these clubs dont grow all that fast.

Re: Audi R8: Car Of The Year???

Its a bit overpriced, wicked or not, its still an Audi after all.

What was that Vauxhall they made that came in around 20k? Mega car, crap badge.

Id love one, dont get me wrong, id even part exchange my old bimmer ragtop towards it maybe but if I was gonan spend that kinda cash I simply could not buy an Audi. I hated the TT, no offence, tinny go kart and most definately a girls car. :-)

it was the VX220, you're right tho - it was arguably better than the Lotus elise, but the latter was a Lotus, and thats where most people would spend their money.
