Which Mobile Phone Network Do You Use In Spain ?

When choosing my phone I looked at just Orange and Vodafone, and chose Vodafone as it's Sim Card was compatible with my phone from UK. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on which provder is best in terms of prices and coverage?.

When I was in the 'Phone House' recently, they tried to sell their own 'Happy Movil' network to me, have any of YourMarbella's members used this network ?

    Hi Christian,

I have used Movistar since 2001 when I'am here in Spain, never had a problem with them.

    Regards

I have 1 movistar, 1 vodaphone and 2 orange lines. I would definitely NOT recommend Orange since their coverage is extremely poor, especially in the Costa del Sol... don´t know how many important calls I have missed because of this :(  I am currently living a nightmare trying to cancel the 2 lines with them as well. I´ll never use Orange again..

I would recommend you use Movistar, has good network coverage and works perfectly well with push email / blackberry.
Their customer service sucks and their prices aren´t that great, but like we say in Spain "mas vale malo conocido que bueno por conocer"

Does anyone use Vodafone contract (not prepay)? . My girlfriend just signed up for a Blackberry Pearl 8100 which was free of charge from Phone House.

Has anybody had experience of using the Vodafone 'Vitamina' contract tariff or the Vodafone Universal 25 tariff?

I actually use vodafone empresas and have 6 lines with them and have no problems with them at all.

In case you did not know (and I did not until my new vodafone guy told me after he checked my tarifs), they actually do a 3G Tarifa Plana for business which consists of 5GB of bandwidth per month at 3.5MB speed and if you exceed that, they throttle you down to 250kbps, which sounds awful, but if you use your phone for email and general web browsing its not too bad.

I have my phone checking my email every hour 24/7, and I get ALOT of email (around 500 per day...thats without any spam) and the speed is decent.

This costs a flat fee of €50 per month and if you are clever enough to figure out how to connect your laptop to your phone with bluetooth and use the phone as the 3G modem, then basically you dont have to sign up for their stupid dongle or the red pcmcia card.

My vodafone guy is Joey from Tanuki Data who is also a Mac Specialist but does vodafone on the side and can help you with vodafone related stuff if you are on a business tariff.

His number is +34 646 353 935 and he is English and speaks native Spanish.
