Good driving roads around Marbella ?

OK so trackdays are great for 100% pushing it but I took a drive up to Casares on Monday and had a real laugh in the Elise (am sure they polish the roads round here)

I've done the Rhonda road in a hire car, which seemed like it could be good if a little busy and heard mention of the Ojen and Istan roads being good fun but not been up there yet (they look quite good on Google Maps too!)

    Any recommendations?

    Re: Good driving roads?

I was going to post this just last week after watching top gear!  Problem in Marbella is none of the roads are surfaced very well.  There must be some fantastic roads north of here though and I agree that Ronda road on google maps looks excellent for an early Sunday morning.  I've never driven it - perhaps we should check it out when I get back in a couple of weeks...

The best 'driving' road close by is the Coin road. From the A7 take the exit for La Canada and proceed across the roundabout and up the hill toward Ojen.... enjoy!

I've also done the Coin to Rhoda road which was good, the problem with the roads around Casares (and I suspect the Ojen & Istan roads will be the same) was the surface was indeed awful and only by luck missed some huge potholes which would've destroyed the suspension, couple that with a massive lack of grip even on dry roads and it really keeps you on your toes Smile.

Definitely up for a Sunday morning "leisurely drive" though Wink

yeah these potholes killed my Aston.  Lets hook up in a couple of weeks and see if there are any decent roads out there. Anyone welcome to join us...

    Re: Good driving roads?

I usually head out either to Rhonda or Ojen. I am on a bike and the roads in Rhonda are relatively grippy compared to the roads in towns. I usually go out with some Spanish riders. my friends were out in Rhonda last Saturday and there were Guarda up there in unmarked cars as well as the bikes. One guy got his license taken off him so keep your eyes open. the Guarda seem to be cracking down up there as there has been quite a few accidents with bikers.

Some other roads i have tried were up in Almunecar, also twisty and good for a blast.

    Anyway Cool  have fun

Head North! go towards Almeria way and its great If its fast driving you like.

I regularly drive up to Mojacar in about 3 hours going the coastal route. some nice stops along the way. going past sierra nevada also. 1 Hr quick, one hr slow and final hour quick.

    Love it.

Its middle of nowhere of course which means its pretty safe to drive quick. Down here its getting more ontop in that respect.

Nice and windey road yes, get stuck behind one or two trucks and can take you 3/4 hr to do the 20km tho and that is common occurance. I used to have a pad up in dear old pikeyville, I mean Coin.

    Re: Good driving roads?

Hey, I live just at the bottom of Casares! Did that road the other day in the company van with (almost) no tyres.... but don't know how you manage in the Elise! The bumps are killers. Look me up next time you are heading this way... might get something tasty to do the "Sunday run" by then..... but then the little van does oversteer rather well!!

How do you all actually cope with the terrible roads/speed bumps/vandelism and careless driving/parking here? I've seen so many nice cars bottom out or have dents/scrapes on them that I am currently not daring to buy anything..... south Spain doesn't seem too "nice car friendly".

Have been contemplating a 350z/M3 CS/Z4M coupe/335Ci/993/996 (can't chose, help!) but since even a C-Class coupe bottoms out on the 9 speed bumps leading up to my place.....

Got a place for a Ford Turneo 1.8TDCi?? ha!
