    Spanish residencia

    Hi all,

I know that many just leave it be, but I'm kinda anal about everything being correct and in order...........

So, how do I change my address on my residencia? Anyone know?

Please tell me that I don't have to go to that awful office in Marbella attached to the Police station again?

    Em :-)

    Re: Spanish residencia

Hi there Emma, unfortunately you will have to go back to your local police station, get hold of the forms you need to change it.

Be careful though, last time i went to update my residencia, they just replaced it with an A4 sheet of paper claiming my residence (no more easy to carry about little ID card style thing)

Its worth changing details though, make sure you are registered for the place you actually live in...all the information is used by the local ayuntamiento to establish how much money is spent on the local area (police, upkeep of the area, etc etc etc) - so by registering the correct information you are ensuring the correct budget is being spent where you live

And if someone finds your handbag,....they know where to send it back to! Bonus!

    Re: Spanish residencia

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo don't make me go back to that place...........I took my Mother there a few years ago to get her all legal and I actually fainted! Woke up surrounded by policemen that was confusing!

The old address is the bar that we used to own, as it is now sold, I should really change the address to my home, but it is only 2 streets away, so it is still in the same area and the postman always brings me stuff to my home even if it has the bar address on it.............

    What do you reckon?

    Em :-)

    Re: Spanish residencia

Gosh Emma, your experience was worst than mine! I had 5 hours in the cold and shade 2 weeks ago in the queue and no one spoke any English, so 5 hours of uncertainty. I did think of giving up quite a few times!

sorry to go off track a bit, but want to ask; Having gotten my N.I.E after that arduous process, am I now "legal" to work, etc?

I hold a full British passport and work for a Spanish company who has also provided me with an apartment. The company has not ask for me to get anything other than a N.I.E. Should I get anything else done?

So far I have gotten a bank account and mobile phone, etc. So does it mean I am legal or not?

    Thanks!!

    Re: Spanish residencia

as far as I am aware you are legal to work now that you have your N.I.E. - the residencia is being phased out now anyway I think. The only time I really use my residencia card is for I.D. when paying for things with a credit card etc. A few years ago it used to be benificial to be a resident for tax reasons but a lot of those laws have now changed.

    Re: Spanish residencia

    Am confused!

I recently found out about the 'Certificado de Empadronamiento' which is the certificate that you receive from your local council after you've stated that you are living within their area.............now, I assumed that as a resident the form wasn't neccessary so I only went to the town hall to get a form for my Mother and friends..........to cut a long story short, the lady in San Pedro town hall had very strict words with me, as I'm meant to have had this form also!!!!!!!!!!!!!.................So, myself and anyone else out there who hasn't got this form, needs to! It is the funding figures for police, roads, services for your area, so its very important!!!!!

    Next issue,

The above mentionned form is apparantly completely separate from residentia paperwork!

Whilst looking into how to change the address on my card, I have since realised that it runs out in May anyway!

and................yes I do have to go back to the National Police station.......aaagggggghhhhhhhhhh!

However, the lady said that the queues shouldn't be as bad now, as it will only be fellow Europeans there! Where are they sending the others to do their paperwork, all the Moro's etc?

and..................yes in place of my lovely easy to carry around card, I will be getting an A4 piece of paper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

am going Tuesday, both to the Police Station and the Town Hall.....................if you never hear from me again........................................................................................................................someone feed my cats x

    Re: Spanish residencia

Absolutely sweet f a to report, the lady in the town hall fibbed about the Eastern Europeans not being there and so the queues being smaller!

We got there at 10am and all the tickets had gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The laughing policeman on the door said that in order to secure being seen, you have to get there at 08.30am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Am seriously not impressed and am wishing that I had the disposable income to pay a someone else to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gawd knows when I'll have the time to try again!

    Filed under:

    Hi Emma,

My experience in getting my residencia certificate was a good one and that was only 2 weeks ago.

But I did do it at the Fuengirola Foriegners Department in the Police Station.

To help anybody who does not already know, here are the things you need to take and to do....

First you need the form Modelo 790 which you collect from the Foriegners Department in the Police Station. You need to fill this in and take it to the bank to pay the fee for the certificate which is 6 euros 80 cents.

(by the way if you dont already have an NIE number you will automatically be given one when you get your Residencia Certificate)

The bank will stamp this form to say you have paid.

Then you need to obtain the form Modelo EX-16 which you can download from the following link...

http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=513616 or you can get it from the police station. This then needs to be filled in.

If you are applying for you Certificate at the Furengirola police station you need to make an appointment. I tried by phone but it was always engaged so it was quicker to go down there... it took 10 mins in a queue... and the person you deal with is a really helpful English guy. You can get your Modelo 790 form from him while you are booking your appointment.

Take your passport with you when you go to book the appointment. You will then be given a ticket with a number for when you came back

When you go back on the day off your appointment (mine was 4 days later) take with you the stamped Modelo 790 form, the filled in Modelo EX-16 form, your passport and a copy of your passport. (if you dont have a NIE number yet you might need to take a couple of passport photos with you... you can get them done in a photo/camera shop in the Miramar Center).

I turned up at the police station when the doors opened at 9 and was was a small queue. I already had my appointment and number so I didnt need to queue, so I took a seat and waited for my number to come up. Within 20 mins I was at the desk being dealt with and 5 mins later I had my certificate (it might take longer for the NIE number, but I already had mine).

So I was back home before 10... so I recommend that if you want a stress free time getting you certificate... go to the Fuengirola Police Station. (before you ask, I am not sure if you have to live in that area to use that police Station, but I dont think you do... I live in Calahonda, but I got my NIE number 4 years ago in Marbella, but my Residencia Certificate in Fuengirola 2 weeks ago).

After you have your certificate you can also register with you local town hall, but you have to renew that every 3 months.

    Hope this all helps

    Paul

    Re: Spanish residencia

Well... it is law to have a residencia certificate now if you plan to stay in Spain longer than 3 months.

As for benefits, the only ones I can think of are...

You can change your bank account to a residents account (i think that is benificial financially).

You can get a better deal on a mortgage.

You are more likely to be accepted on credit in shops.

If anybody else knows of any other benefits I would like to know as I am now an official resident after living here for over 4 years.

    Regards

    Paul

    Re: Spanish residencia

I had to become official as I wanted to go autonomo with my old business............

Otherwise, My opinion is, if you want to live here, become a resident!

Declaring yourself at the town hall, I totally agree with and will be disgusted with anyone that hasn't bothered to do so! If you are living in Spain the least you can do is make sure your area has the funding it should have, after all, you may need the services of the police etc one day, so at least help by paying for it, by completing a simple form!

They are phasing out a lot of stuff that used to go with being a resident...........a main point to remember is that as soon as you become a resident you must change your driving license to a Spanish one or get it offically stamped............your car must be changed to Spanish plates.........but don't get me started on a rant about those still driving on uk plates!

    Taxes, healthcare are other issues.....
