    Speeding

What are the consequences? (fines, points, disqualification, car confiscation)

Do the toll booths keep track of the cars coming through? like average speed cameras in the UK.

There seems to be very few speed cameras except in the big cities

Don't know about the consequences as I've avoided them but the two to remember round here are at La Cala de Mijas going toward Fuengirola just by the BP garage and one just before the nasty (fun) bends coming back

    Re: Speeding

95 euros on the spot fine for me, doing 112kmh through a mobile speed trap in a 80kmh zone. I still have my English license and was driving a UK plated car. The Guardia just seemed to want to process me, get my cash and get rid of me. However, the others that were stopped in Spanish cars seemed to be getting much harsher treatment. One guy on a motorbike had to hand over his keys and call for a lift!!!

    Re: Speeding

I got done for 83 in a 60 zone, the 60 zone was only about 200 yards long for a dodgy bend, but fair enough. The cops were pretty good, not harsh like some horror stories I have heard, maybe it helped when I explained I was scottish and not english, lol. They gave me a ticket for a fine of 100 euros and if I paid it within a month it was reduced to 70. One thing I have noticed is that almost every unmarked police car I have seen has been a Ciroen Xsara, so now whenever I see one I take extra care.

    Re: Speeding

As an extra point to this question, does anyone know what the time limit for paying a speeding fine is? I know when I got mine previously, if I paid it within 1 month I got a 30% reduction, but would be useful to know for the future if there is an upper limit for paying i.e. 2 months 3 months etc. Have heard some stories about Police taking it directly from your bank account if it is not paid within a certain time, but this might be an exaggeration. I have looked on the traffic dept website, www.dgt.es , but cannot find anything that addresses the issue. If anyone has any info, it would be good to know.
