Setting up a business in Marbella

    Hi..

I am planning to re-locate to Marbella, and would like to know how i go about setting up a business (Thai massage)etc.  Has anyone on this site experienced setting up a biz. I am also selling products from Asia and would like to open a small shop.

    thanks ....

    Re: Setting up a business

    Hi Aly,

a good start would be to get yourself a local lawyer. Their offices can usually deal with the whole process of opening a business and the tons of paperwork that comes with it. You can open an SL company or operate as a sole trader depending on how much you are going to be earning. It costs a couple of thousand Euros to set up an SL company with trading name etc, but with this you can operate several types of different businesses as you like.

The products from Asia idea sounds good, although there are several places in Marbella already doing furniture etc....what were you thinking of ?.

    Re: Setting up a business

You could either try and sell it yourself, setting up a shop etc..expensive and quite risky. Or, sell it to an existing retail place which sells that kind of thing. There are even beach front market stalls in Marbella who might sell it for you....Best thing...get yourself over here and check it out...

    Re: Setting up a business

There are other options open to you, not just the 'sl' company way which is like having a limited company in the Uk. It has much more sunbstantial public liabity insurances etc and higher start up costs mainly due to this. Many businesses do not have to go that route.

It is possible to work autonomo, private trader. you pay the autonomo as you would most countries national insurance that covers medical stuff etc.

With Gibraltar being so close to this region it is also possible to have an offshore business that is basically tax free over there also. It depends on the type of business/industry you are in whether to go this route but for small traders a definate option. For other bsuiness, like some of mine over the years the rules are different for outside companies and it makes sense to be here for different benefits.

Another option that I also utilise and isnt mentioned all that much for some reason is a 'c.b' business which is basically a private company. this is more than adequate for many start ups and small businesses. This costs I believe from memory about 180 euros, a one off or yearly fee.

In all situations you need an accountant , they average on price around 140 euros per month and are usually paid each 3 months.

You have to be paying autonomo in some way unless you are an investor and not actually 'working' in all cases, either through a company wage or alongside the options above. That costa bout 240 euros per month. That is a heart breaker for many start ups but the amount stays fixed no matter your earnings.

"information not legal or binding. just from memory" :-)

Re: Setting up a business in Marbella

    Hi Aly,

Congratulations on making the move to Marbella. I hope it all goes well for you.

I am a freelance Graphic Designer here on the coast so I guess as you are setting up a new business you will need some design work doing, such as a logo, flyers, etc.

Let me know if I can be of any help to you.

    Kind regards

    Paul
