Marbella fall into relegation zone with three games to go

With Marbella playing their usual controlled game and Lorca using the wings to good effect, Sunday’s game looked to be an entertaining one, the first chance falling to Lorca in the eighth minute. A good move involving Lorca’s óscar Rico and Rueda resulted in ávila pushing the ball away for a corner. Marbella, knowing the importance of the match, seemed a little nervous and struggled to put the Lorca goalkeeper under any type of pressure, with the best chances coming by way of free kicks. Lorca kept pressing and created several opportunities that óscar Rico and Chando failed to capitalise on.

The home team kept attacking but the Marbella defence held firm. When they did get past the defence they found an in-form ávila in the Marbella goal. With the half ending Vicente put a great cross in from the left that had the Lorca fans cheering what looked to be a certain goal but somehow ávila at full stretch kept the ball out.

The second half started with a fright for Lorca: within 30 seconds of the half commencing, Quini took advantage of a mistake by the Lorca defence and found himself in a one-on-one with the Lorca goalkeeper but failed to find the back of the net. Minutes later Lorca's Jorge Sánchez found himself in a similar position but he hit the ball tamely and straight at ávila who easily held on to the ball.

Oli’s men started to up the tempo; the game was quick with end-to-end action but neither team managed to find the net. Vergara’s introduction to the game gave the away side a lift, Marbella were proving to be very dangerous on the counter attack, and Lolo just missed the target when it seemed he would score. Marbella grew in confidence and they seemed the most likely to score at this point, then when least expected Lorca got their noses in front. Lorca won a corner and from this the ball fell to Manel who stuck out a leg and sent the ball into the back of ávila’s goal. Marbella threw everything forward but the seconds ticket away, and the team left Murcia with nothing to show for their efforts.

    Supporters’ Day

Marbella now have three games left all against direct rivals, Mazarrón (at home), Baza (at home) and Portuense (away), the first of these (Mazarrón) will be played at 18:00 hours on Sunday 4th May at the Estadio Municipal de Marbella. This match has been selected as ‘Supporters’ Day’ and entrance to the match will be free of charge to all. So we urge everyone to get down to Marbella’s stadium for this very important match and help cheer the team on and help them move away from the relegation area.
