Also the Federal Reserve just cut the Fed Funds rate, one of two U.S. base rates by 75 basis points, i.e. 0.75% to 3.50%. They were expected to do that at their next FOMC meeting anyway. The  Futures spiked up on that, but are still in negative territory; the markets might not care enough about this measure...

Sorry, I meant to say "not that Eurotunnel was a big success financially..." I used a double negation instead.  It would be nice to think such long-awaited public projects are.    

I guess it's not exactly fair to the businesses that operate with proper permits, but the economic destruction of shutting down all 1,000 or so businesses is just too great. Besides, maybe government shouldn't really decide if you should be allowed to open a legitimate (i.e.non criminal) business or not, but that is another matter.

That would be neat, but the fortune it would cost to build, especially over such a long period of time. I am sure there will be many upward revisions to the budget. Not that Eurotunnel was not a big success financially, consider the stock price development form €4.70 in 1994 to 11 cents now.
